The Asia Pacific Leadership Program
(APLP) is the center of excellence for leadership education in Asia Pacific and
a signature program of the East-West Center. The program links advanced and
interdisciplinary analysis of emergent regional issues with experiential
leadership learning. APLP graduates leave the East-West Center with an expanded
regional perspective. They are knowledgeable about the societies and issues of
the Asia Pacific region and empowered to exercise leadership and promote
cooperation in a variety of cultural, geographical and institutional
environments. In short, APLP alumni are navigators of change.

Field(s) of study:
First semester program content
focuses on three areas: interpreting emerging issues facing the Asia Pacific;
developing leadership capacity; and professional development. Activities
include workshops, discussion seminars, outdoor challenges, lectures,
simulations, field experience, independent work and online activities. After
the core experience, participants engage in a range of flexible, customized
activities for an additional four months (January to May). These activities
include: coursework at the University of Hawaii; developing applied leadership
projects; carrying out extended field studies; new professional positions; or
returning to employment.

Scholarship
value/inclusions:
The Fellowship is used to cover the
majority of program fees, provision of learning materials, electronic and print
resources, transportation to most off-site locations, other travel and
excursions, specialized workshops, and health insurance. The estimated value of
these items is approximately $15,000 (fellows responsible for paying applicable
U.S. taxes). In addition to the APLP Entry Fellowship granted to all
participants, a sizeable number of East-West
Center funding
opportunities are available.
Eligibility:
-All participants have at least a
Bachelor’s degree and most have a Master’s degree. APLP participants have come
from 53 countries and have a tremendous range of backgrounds (as
examples: science, business, development, politics, government, civil
society, medicine, religious orders, art, finance, academia or research). The
age of participants ranges from mid 20s to mid 40s with an average of over
30. Most have at least five years of professional experience.
-TOEFL: This is a requirement for all international students (unless automatically exempt). Your TOEFL test result can be no more than two years old. The International English language Testing System (IELTS) may be substituted for the TOEFL.

Applications for the 2014 – 2015
APLP Fellowship will be available from September 1, 2013. The
assessment process will be undertaken by a panel experienced in the mentioned
field of study. Those who request scholarship funding to cover participant
costs should complete their applications by the priority deadline of December
1, 2013.
