Description:


The Sydney Achievers International Scholarships provides new international students who want to study in University of Sydney in Australia.  These prestigious scholarships are aimed at attracting high achieving, academically meritorious, international students to enjoy the ‘Sydney experience’ at one of the finest institutions of higher education in the world.

Number of Scholarships: 

Up to 100 of these prestigious Scholarships will be offered in 2013 to high achieving, academically meritorious, international students.

Target group:

The scholarships are for international students from any country.

Scholarship value/inclusions:

For the undergraduate scholarships, each scholarship has a value of AUD$10,000 per annum, available for a maximum of three years, (total value AUD$30,000) for any Undergraduate program offered at the University of Sydney (subject to the recipient maintaining satisfactory academic progress each year).

For the postgraduate scholarships, each  scholarship has a value of AUD$10,000 each, available as a one-off award (AUD$10,000 each per annum, (ie, $15,000 in total for a 1.5 year program, $20,000 in total for a 2 year program) for any Postgraduate Coursework program offered at the University of Sydney.
Living allowance is NOT included in the scholarships.

Eligibility:

Undergraduate Scholarships
Applicants must have completed an Australian Year 12 qualification or an international senior secondary qualification accepted by the University with an Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR) of at least 98* or equivalent.
Students who have already commenced tertiary studies or students transferring with credit exemptions and/or advanced standing are not eligible. Students completing Foundation Studies Programs are also not eligible.

Postgraduate Scholarships
Applicants must have completed the equivalent of an Australian Bachelor degree qualification with a minimum high distinction average as based on the Australian grading system. Students who have already commenced postgraduate studies or students transferring from other postgraduate programs are not eligible.

Application instructions:

Only applicants with unconditional offers of admission will be considered. An application for admission to the University of Sydney in 2014 will constitute an application for a scholarship. All applications meeting the selection and eligibility criteria will be automatically considered. 

The deadline for receipt of applications and complete supporting documentation (academic and English language proficiency results) is 15 January 2014 (for Semester 1, 2013) and 30 June 2014 (for Semester 2, 2013). Applications received after these deadlines will not be considered.

The Commonwealth Scholarships are for students from developing Commonwealth countries for Master’s (one-year), PhD, and split-site PhD study in the UK. These scholarships are funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID).

Host Institution(s):

There is a nominating agency for Commonwealth Scholarships in each Commonwealth country. In addition, universities and university bodies in a number of developing Commonwealth countries are invited to nominate candidates to the CSC.

Field(s) of study:

All subject areas are eligible, although the CSC’s selection criteria give priority to those applications that demonstrate strong relevance to development. You are requested to apply for a course of study at UK universities which has agreed to offer a tuition fee contribution for 2014-2015.

Number of Scholarships: 

Approximately 200-230 scholarships are awarded each year.

Target group:

The scholarships are targeted to Developing Commonwealth Countries (Anguilla,  Antigua and Barbuda, Bangladesh, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, Botswana, British Virgin Islands, Cameroon, Cayman Islands, Dominica, Falkland Islands,  Fiji, Gambia, Ghana, Gibraltar, Grenada, Guyana, India, Jamaica, Kenya, Kiribati, Lesotho, Malawi, Malaysia, Maldives, Mauritius, Montserrat, Mozambique, Namibia, Nauru, Nigeria, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Pitcairn, St. Helena, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, Seychelles *,  Sierra Leone, Solomon Islands, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Swaziland, Tanzania, Tonga, Trinidad and Tobago, Tristan da Cunha, Turks and Caicos,  Tuvalu, Uganda, Vanuatu, Western Samoa, Zambia).

Scholarship value/inclusions:

Each Scholarship provides:

• Student concessionary or other approved airfare to the United Kingdom and return on expiry of the Scholarship (the cost of journeys made before final award confirmation will not normally be reimbursed, nor can fares be paid for a Scholar’s dependants)
• Approved tuition and examination fees
• A personal maintenance allowance at the rate of £917 per month (£1134 per month for those studying at institutions in the London Metropolitan area)
• A grant towards the expenses of preparing a thesis or dissertation, where applicable
• An initial arrival allowance, incorporating an initial clothing grant for Scholars from tropical countries
• A grant for expenses for approved travel within the United Kingdom or overseas
• A grant towards fieldwork costs for those Scholars undertaking doctoral studies for which a case has been made for fieldwork outside the United Kingdom. This shall not normally exceed one economy class return airfare to the fieldwork location
• A paid mid-term fare to their home country for Scholars on three year doctoral awards. Scholars for whom fieldwork fares are provided to their home country shall not be entitled to a mid-term fare home, nor Scholars who have claimed (or intend to claim) spouse or child allowances for more than 12 months during their award.
• For married scholars and/or scholars with children, allowance(s) are provided.

Eligibility:

To apply for the awards covered in this prospectus, candidates should:

• Be Commonwealth citizens, refugees, or British protected persons
• Be permanently resident in a Commonwealth country other than the United Kingdom, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man
• Be available to commence their academic studies in the United Kingdom by the start of the UK academic year in September/October 2014
• Hold, by October 2014, a first degree of upper second class Honors’ standard (or above); or a second class degree and a relevant postgraduate qualification, which will normally be a Master’s degree.

You must check with them in the first instance for specific advice on how to make an application and for their own closing dates. The CSC cannot accept any applications direct from candidates. American University Emerging Global Leader Scholarship

The AU Emerging Global Leader Scholarship is targeted to high-achieving international students who wish to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in the US and who are dedicated to positive civic and social change. It is intended for students who will be to returning home to improve under-resourced, underserved communities in his/her home country.

Any undergraduate study offered at the University

Target group:

The scholarships are targeted to international secondary school students from any country. U.S. citizens, U.S. permanent residents or dual citizens of the U.S. and another country are not eligible to apply.

Preference will be given to international students who have overcome various obstacles and challenges as well as those from diverse and under-represented global and socio-economic backgrounds.

Scholarship value/inclusions:

The AU EGL scholarship covers all billable AU expenses (full tuition, room and board).  The scholarship does not cover non-billable expenses such as mandatory health insurance, books, airline tickets and miscellaneous expenses (approximately US$4,000).
It is renewable for a total of four years of undergraduate study, based on continued satisfactory academic performance.

Eligibility:

To be considered for the scholarship, candidates must be secondary school students (not university students) applying as first-year (freshman) students at American University for the August 2013 semester.

Candidates must be from any another country other than the US and must need a visa to study in the United States (preference will be for those who need an F-1 or J-1 student visa).

In order to be eligible for the scholarship, the applicants should have:

• A minimum 3.8 GPA equivalent (or in the top 10 percent of graduating class) for 9th-12th grades
• A demonstrated commitment to service and advancing the needs of people in their home country
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, with a minimum 90 TOEFL iBT (with no subscore lower than 20) or 6.5 IELTS (with no subscore lower than 6.0)
• Demonstrated leadership, volunteerism and community service

Application instructions:

To qualify for August 2014 intake, students must submit the EGL Scholarship Application, the Common Application, and AU Supplement forms plus all supporting documents by 15 January 2014.
