The Fulbright Program is scholarships in USA for international and student who wants to pursue a Master’s or PhD degree.  The scholarships can also be awarded for non-degree postgraduate studies.

It is administered by bi-national Fulbright Commissions/Foundations or U.S. Embassies. All Foreign Student Program applications are processed by these offices.

The Fulbright Program will not fund applicants seeking to enroll in a medical degree program nor does it offer grants to those who wish to conduct clinical medical research or training involving patient care and/or contact but it supports the fields of public health and global health.

Eligibility:

To apply for the 2013 Endeavour Postgraduate Awards, international applicants must first satisfy the eligibility requirements detailed below:

1. International applicants must be citizens and/or permanent residents of a participating country (see Section 4.3) and may not hold dual citizenship with Australia.

2. International applicants who currently hold a valid Australian student visa are not eligible to apply.

3. Applicants who have completed an Endeavour Award and/or AusAID Scholarship in the preceding 24 months (2 years) before the current round of the Endeavour Awards are not eligible to apply.

4. Applicants must have completed an undergraduate degree (minimum) at the time of application, demonstrating high academic achievement.

5. Applicants must have applied for and gained admission to a Masters or PhD course in Australia. Conditional letters of offer will be accepted at the time of application. Please note that you will not be funded for Masters level study leading to a PhD – you must choose one, either Masters or PhD level study.

Applications for the 2014 Endeavour Awards open in April 2013. Deadline will be around June 2013.Applicants undertaking study for a Masters Degree or PhD must provide a confirmation of enrollment or an offer of admission letter from the host university/institution they have applied to. Scholarship description: 


The UK Commonwealth Shared Scholarship Scheme provides scholarships for international students from developing Commonwealth countries who wants to study a postgraduate degree in UK Universities.  It is a joint initiative between the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (with funding from DFID), and UK universities.

The Scheme allows them to contribute toward the development of their home countries. Awards are for taught masters courses only. No awards will be made for undergraduate or doctoral study. 

Participating Universities(s):

Scholarships are only available at participating universities in the UK.  See the Booklet for 2013 Commonwealth Shared Scholarship Prospectus for details of the UK institutions offering Scholarships joint-funded with the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in 2013.

Fields of study:

Shared Scholarship Scheme (SSS) Awards are offered only for subjects relating to the economic, social and technological development of a candidate’s country.  Additional details of the eligible courses (or departments) offered by the institutions is found at the 2013 Commonwealth Shared Scholarship Prospectus.

Number of Scholarships: 

It is envisaged that around 170 Scholarships will be offered distributed to the participating institutions.

Target group:

Scholarship value/inclusions:

DFID and participating United Kingdom institutions will jointly meet the full costs of an award holder’s study in the United Kingdom including air fares to and from the United Kingdom. Maintenance allowance is paid by the scholar’s host institution, at the level set by the UK Government: £1,134 per month for scholars based in London and £917 per month for the rest of the UK. 

A grant of up to £225 to cover thesis (Master’s) costs is available; also available is £200 for study travel. The cost of up to 10 Kilograms of excess baggage (books only) is available for scholars returning home at the end of their awards.  No additional allowances are paid for spouses or other dependents.

Eligibility:

Candidates are normally expected to hold a first degree at either first class or upper second-class level. Sponsoring institutions must confirm that candidates are sufficiently fluent in written and oral English to pursue their proposed studies immediately, as no pre-course English Language Teaching is available under these awards.

Applicants should:

a. be nationals of (or permanently domiciled in) a Commonwealth developing country, and not currently be living or studying in a developed country (please see the booklet for a list of eligible countries);

b. hold a first degree at either first or upper second class level;

c . be sufficiently fluent in English to pursue the course;

d. have not previously studied for one year or more in a developed country;

e. not be employed by a government department (at national level) or a parastatal organization (employees of universities are normally acceptable, however);

f. be able to confirm in writing that neither they or their families would otherwise be able to pay for the proposed course of study; and

g. be willing to confirm that they will return to their home country as soon as their period of study is complete.

Application instructions:

Applications should be made directly to the institutions at which candidates wish to study. The sponsoring institutions will be the judges of academic caliber and will forward their nominations to the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission for its agreement. The assessment process will be undertaken by a panel experienced in the mentioned field of study. To get started and receive a scholarship application package. The Japanese Government offers scholarships in Japan to international students who wish to study at Japanese universities as undergraduate students under the Japanese Government Scholarship Program. The scholarship program is administered by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT).

Those who wish to study in Japan as an undergraduate student must choose a field of major from the fields below. Applicants may enter a first, second, and third choice.

Social Sciences and Humanities-B: Economics, and Business Administration.

Natural Sciences

Number of Scholarships: 

To date, some 83,000 students from approximately 160 countries and regions around the world have studied in Japan under the Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho) Scholarship program established in 1954. As of May 1, 2009, there were 10,168 foreign students studying in Japan as Japanese government scholarship students.

Target group:

The scholarships are awarded to nationals of countries which has diplomatic relations with the Japanese government.

Scholarship Benefits:

(1) Allowance: Under the fiscal 2012 budget, each grantee will be provided monthly with 117,000 yen. (an additional monthly stipend of 2,000 or 3,000 yen may be provided to those undertaking study or research in specially designated regions.) (However, this will be subject to change, depending upon the annual budget for each year). The scholarship will not be paid to a grantee that takes a leave of absence or is long absent from the assigned university or the preparatory Japanese-teaching institution.

(2) Traveling Costs
• Transportation to Japan: Each grantee will be provided, according to his/her itinerary and route as designated by MEXT, with an economy class air ticket from the international airport closest to his/her place of residence to Narita International Airport (or following the itinerary normally used by the university where the grantee is placed). Expenses such as inland transportation from his/her place of residence to the nearest international airport, airport tax, airport usage charges, special taxes on overseas travel and travel expenses within Japan will be borne by the grantee (the place of residence of the grantee shall in principle be the address stated in the application form). Air travel from a country other than the grantee’s nationality will not be covered, nor travel to Japan before April 1, 2013. If the grantee comes to Japan to obtain admission to a university, he/she will not be provided with traveling cost to Japan.

• Transportation from Japan: The grantee who returns to his/her home country within the last-payment month of his/her scholarship will be provided, upon application, with an economy class air ticket for a flight from Narita International Airport (or following the itinerary normally used by the university where the grantee is placed) to the international airport closest to his/her place of return.

(3) School Fees: Fees for entrance examinations, matriculation and tuition at universities will be paid by the Japanese government.

Eligibility:

(1) Nationality: Applicant must have the nationality of a country which has diplomatic relations with the Japanese government. This applies at such times to stateless persons, too. Applicant who has Japanese nationality at the time of application will not be eligible. 

(2) Age: Applicant must have been born between April 2, 199q and April 1, 1996.

(3) Academic Background: Applicant must either have completed a 12-year regular course of school education or have graduated from a school equivalent to an upper secondary school in Japan. (Included is any Applicant, who will satisfy the above qualifications by March, 2013.)

(4) Japanese Language: The Applicant must be willing to learn the Japanese language and receive university education in it.

(6) Health: Applicant must be physically and mentally healthy enough to pursue study at university.

(7) Visa Requirement: Selected Applicants must obtain a College Student visa prior to his arrival in Japan. Applicants who are already in Japan before the start of the scholarship period under a visa other than College Student are required to change it to College Student by the end of the month preceding the start of the scholarship. Applicants who change their resident status to any status other than “College Student” after their arrival in Japan will immediately lose their status as a Japanese government scholarship student.

(8) Any applicant who meets any or all of the following conditions is not eligible. If identified after the start of the scholarship period, the applicant will be required to withdraw from the scholarship:

• If Applicant is a service member or a civilian employee registered on the active military list at the time the scholarship period is due to begin.
• If Applicant is a grantee of a scholarship from an organization (including a governmental organization of his/her own country) other than the Japanese government (MONBUKAGAKUSHO:MEXT);
• If the applicant is a previous recipient of a Japanese government scholarship. Unless more than three years have passed since the first day of the month following the final payment of the previous scholarship, as of April 1, 2013 (In case where the student starts from the fall semester, the month of entrance.); or
•  If Applicant is, in principle, currently enrolled in a Japanese university with the resident status of “College Student,” or will be enrolled in a Japanese university as another source or self- financed international student between the time of application for this scholarship in his/her country and the time the scholarship period is due to begin. This does not apply to current self- financed international students at Japanese universities who will complete their course of study and return to their country before the end of the current year.

Application Instructions:

Scholarship recipients are recruited and initially screened by a Japanese embassy (or consulate general, depending on the country). Because the application process differs according to the country in which the Japanese embassy is located, please inquire at the Japanese embassy or consulate general in your country for details.
